<image:caption>We are working directly with the custodians of the Elbow Reef Lighthouse to help facilitate funding for the restoration needs of this iconic landmark after the devastation inflicted by Hurricane Dorian in September 2019. The team have made enormous strides to restore this landmark but still need help. Unique in all the world, this rare, 'complete' lightstation, with all its original buildings, is the only active hand-wound, kerosene burning lighthouse of its kind remaining on the planet.</image:caption>

The continued preservation of Elbow Cay’s public areas, monuments, history and cultural programs will create new social and economic opportunities for the people of Abaco, Bahamas.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Home - Support for Communities</image:title>
<image:caption>At the heart of our foundation’s mission is a simple belief: communities have the power to preserve what makes them unique and build what makes them stronger—together. We stand alongside Abaco’s communities as they safeguard their cultural heritage. Whether supporting ideas that celebrate Bahamian culture, preserving historic landmarks, or hosting the Elbow Reef Classic Fishing Tournament, we’re here to help. The strength of Abaco lies not just in its stunning natural beauty but in the resilience, creativity, and spirit of its people. When communities come together to protect their culture and shape their future, extraordinary things happen—and we’re honored to be part of that journey.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Board Members - Laura Gallagher, President</image:title>
<image:caption>Laura Gallagher is a Florida native who has been boating to The Bahamas since she was a teenager. Her first visit to the Elbow Reef Lighthouse was at age 15 and it has held a special place in her heart ever since. Never found far from the water, Laura has a degree in Biology from Florida State University and has worked extensively with marine mammals. She and her husband Steve and daughter Morgan have owned property in The Bahamas for more than twenty years. Currently they have a home on Scotland Cay. In 2018, Laura and her family sailed their 44’ Catamaran, Wiwoka, safely across the Atlantic to Europe. Unfortunately, this trip of a lifetime was cut short by Hurricane Dorian. The unbelievable damage in Abaco and their sense of community brought the Gallaghers back to The Bahamas, returning to help fulltime with the rebuilding. They spent many a dark night in 2019 and 2020 when the lume of the lighthouse was the one bright light that helped them focus more positively on the work ahead. Becoming a member of the Elbow Reef Foundation’s board is Laura’s way of giving back. Laura was instrumental in the development of Ed Rocks. She was in the trenches at the conceptual stages in 2008 and facilitated the growth to become the Ed Rocks that we see presently. The family continues to support their mission to this day. A real estate agent in Delray Beach since 1997, Laura spends as much of her free time as possible with her family at their home on Scotland Cay.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Our logo draws inspiration from the iconic weather vane atop Elbow Reef Lighthouse—a symbol of forward movement, progress, and hope for the future. Flanking the weather vane are two faces, representing the collaborative spirit essential to meaningful change: foundations and communities, donors and doers, vision and action, all working in partnership toward shared goals. Rising above the lighthouse dome, these two figures meet, touching foreheads in a gesture of unity and mutual commitment, their gaze cast downward as guardians watching over the island’s rich heritage and the people who sustain it.</image:caption>
