Supporting the Historical Aspects of Elbow Cay.

The Elbow Reef Foundation is a registered non-profit 501(c)(3), founded in 2020 to supplement community activity spaces and historical preservation sites for the citizens of Elbow Cay.

We Help the Elbow Reef Lighthouse Society do what they do best!

We are working directly with the custodians of the Elbow Reef Lighthouse to help facilitate funding for the restoration needs of this iconic landmark after the devastation inflicted by Hurricane Dorian in September 2019. The team have made enormous strides to restore this landmark but still need help.

Unique in all the world, this rare, 'complete' lightstation, with all its original buildings, is the only active hand-wound, kerosene burning lighthouse of its kind remaining on the planet.

Secured the Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation in 2022 and worked along side the grantee through completion.

Grant work: The Elbow Reef Foundation secured a grant of $472,000 from the United States who partnered with the Elbow Reef Foundation to aid the Elbow Reef Lighthouse Society to restore the iconic and historic landmark, the Elbow Reef Lighthouse.

The continued preservation of Elbow Cay’s public areas, monuments, history and cultural programs will create new social and economic opportunities for the people of Abaco, Bahamas.

Support for Communities

At the heart of our foundation’s mission is a simple belief: communities have the power to preserve what makes them unique and build what makes them stronger—together.

We stand alongside Abaco’s communities as they safeguard their cultural heritage. Whether supporting ideas that celebrate Bahamian culture, preserving historic landmarks, or hosting the Elbow Reef Classic Fishing Tournament, we’re here to help. The strength of Abaco lies not just in its stunning natural beauty but in the resilience, creativity, and spirit of its people. When communities come together to protect their culture and shape their future, extraordinary things happen—and we’re honored to be part of that journey.

“We devote ourselves to monuments and historical interests that deserve to shine and for the community that needs their public spaces maintained or restored. ”

— Heather Forde-Prosa, Founder, Elbow Reef Foundation, Inc.
